Ravi Shastri may be called by ED to speak about IPL frauds

Former Indian captain and IPL governing council member Ravi Shastri has been asked to appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED), who has been probing into the financial frauds associated with the Indian Premier League. The issues allegedly occurred in the second season of the IPL, under the chairmanship of Lalit Modi, who was later axed as the chairman of the IPL.

Shastri has been asked to appear in the ED office next season but it remains to be seen whether he will be able to make it given that the former cricketer is in England for commentary on the series between India and England.

According to ED, Shastri, given that he was the IPL GC member during those days, would have had a knowledge of all the decisions that were taken during the time.

The ED has lodged a case in April last year under Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) against former IPL chairman Lalit Modi. Modi is no longer in India, currently away in London.

If Shastri does give his statement against Modi, it will help the ED strengthen their case against the former chairman of the IPL.
